On September 12, the Society Consortium in the Fields of Civil Engineering, Water Conservancy, Transportation, and Construction of the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology held its first academic report meeting of 2026 in Nanjing. The meeting was co-hosted by the Jiangsu Society for Comprehensive Transportation, the Jiangsu Civil Engineering and Architecture Society, and the Jiangsu Society for Metals, with the editorial departments of Modern Transportation and Metallurgical Materials and Civil Engineering and Green Buildings jointly staging the event. With the theme “New Materials Empowering Modern Transportation, Dual Carbon Leading Green Buildings,” the meeting focused on innovative applications of advanced materials in transportation and construction. It aimed to implement the dual carbon strategy and the spirit of the provincial government’s matchmaking meeting on promoting the application of steel products. It was also a concrete action by the journal to implement the arrangements of the first meeting of its second editorial board and to deepen journal-conference collaboration.

The meeting was chaired by Ding Junhua, Vice Chairman of the Jiangsu Society for Comprehensive Transportation and Deputy Director of the journal’s editorial board. During the presentation session, Academician Liu Jiaping, Professor Liu Songyu of Southeast University, Professor Liu Hui of Central South University, and Professor-Level Senior Engineer Hu Xianjun of Shagang Group, along with other experts and journal editorial board members, delivered academic presentations on topics such as resource utilization of solid waste, carbon sequestration in geotechnical engineering, low-carbon high-strength steel, and intelligent rail transit equipment, demonstrating the academic vitality of interdisciplinary integration among transportation, construction, and metallurgical materials.

At the meeting, the editorial department of Modern Transportation and Metallurgical Materials introduced the journal as China’s first engineering-technology sci-tech journal spanning both transportation and metallurgy. It has adhered to its integrated publishing approach and, in practice, brought together the collaborative strengths of academic support institutions such as Southeast University and Central South University, and journal council members such as Shagang Group. Through special issue planning, academic exchange, and industry-academia-research matchmaking, it bridges academia and industry and continuously improves its publishing quality. In 2024, it was selected as a China Science and Technology Core Journal and one of the first leading journals under Jiangsu Province’s Excellence Action Plan for Sci-Tech Journals, with its academic convening power and platform influence steadily increasing. The meeting also provided a platform for the journal to showcase itself and exchange ideas, further expanding its influence among consortium member institutions, industry experts, and young sci-tech workers, and laying a foundation for identifying and tracking high-quality manuscript sources, planning special issues, and building an expert database.

Next, the journal will continue to strengthen journal-conference collaboration. Building on special issues already planned, such as “Metal Materials for Transportation Engineering and Vehicles” and “Efficient Regeneration and Utilization of Industrial Solid Waste,” it will plan special issues and organize academic exchanges in line with Jiangsu Province’s work arrangements for matchmaking in steel product applications, promoting the translation of more achievements into practice. At the same time, it will continue to serve the consortium’s brand activities, focusing on practical issues such as the promotion and application of steel structures and the resource utilization of steel slag, promote deeper industry-academia-research-application integration, and give full play to the journal’s role as a bridge and bond for academic exchange and integration in fields such as materials, transportation, and civil engineering.
